Lead Pastor at Austin New Church Resigns

Brandon Hatmaker is a Christian author, speaker and blogger. He is also the lead pastor at Austin New Church in Austin, Texas. On Nov. 13, he announced that he and his wife would be leaving the church after years of working together to establish it as an influential voice within Christianity.

The news came after accusations of misconduct against Hatmaker by several women who were present during his time at North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia., where he was previously employed as an associate pastor from 2012 to 2013. In response to these allegations, Hatmaker stated that “[his] actions have caused some pain in relationships.”

Brandon Hatmaker’s New Church Didn’t Offer “Safe Space” for Affirming the LGBTQ Community

Brandon Hatmaker’s new church didn’t offer “safe space” for affirming the LGBTQ community.

His previous church, which he founded in Orange County, CA in 2007, was called The Journey Church. In September 2018 he resigned from that position because of disagreements with its leadership over how the church should handle his wife’s beliefs about LGBTQ people and marriage equality.

The couple had written a book together called For The Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards that was published by HarperCollins Christian Publishing on April 5th but wasn’t allowed to be sold on Amazon due to its content (the company does not make moral judgements about books). Their story has since been documented as part of an HBO series called “Confessions of Faith” which premiered last month.*

Brandon and Kendra Hatmaker have been an integral part of our church for years. They have served faithfully, and we are praying for them as they walk through this difficult time.

The Hatmaker’s new church, called Love Wins Ministries, is based in the city of Irvine. It opened its doors on January 26th with a service that was open to anyone who wanted to attend and was streamed online via Facebook Live. The couple told attendees they had been praying for a year about whether or not God wanted them to start another church and decided it would be best if they did so in Orange County where they had both worked previously (Pastor Tullian has also served as an associate minister at Saddleback Church)The couple’s announcement comes just days after they were caught in an adultery scandal. A woman identified as Kijuana Njie claims she had a two-year affair with Jennings while he was married to HatmakerIn a statement posted to his blog, Hatmaker said that he had “more recently been accused of things that I don’t believe are accurate, but I can understand why they are being said.” He also added that he would not be addressing the issue any further as it was something “between [him], my wife and God.”..

This is a community of grace and mercy, where no one is beyond the love of God. We are praying for Brandon and Kendra as they seek healing, wholeness and restoration in their livesThe church is located at 8667 Campus Drive and will hold services on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am, 11:00 am and 5:00 pm..
