The Greatest Story Ever Told is a 1965 American epic film which tells the story of Jesus from his birth to his resurrection. Produced and directeid by George Stevens, it was the first of three films on the life of Christ made by director George Stevens, but not released until after his death in 1975. It was followed by The Greatest Story Ever Told (2000) and The Gospel Of John (2003).

George Stevens

George Stevens was a director, actor, producer and writer — but he’s best known as perhaps the greatest cinematographer in film history. After a brief acting career starring in silent films like The Great Gatsby (1926) and The Public Enemy (1931), Stevens transitioned into directing when he started working with Frank Capra on “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” (1939). Later collaborations with Capra include It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) and It Happened One Night (1934). In fact, it was his work with Capra that inspired him to start producing films himself: His first production credit was for 1951’s A Place in the Sun starring Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift.

In 1955, George Stevens won his first Academy Award for Best Director for Giant — an epic drama about Texas oil magnates which starred Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Carroll Baker. In 1958 he directed The Diary of Anne Frank based on the stage play written by Frances Goodrich & Albert Hackett — though many people mistakenly believe it was written by their child star Millie Perkins herself because she played Anne Frank onstage from 1952 until 1955 when she replaced Carol Lynley as Jo March in Broadway’s Bye Bye Birdie!

Max von Sydow

Max von Sydow was born Carl Adolf von Sydow on April 1, 1929 in Lund, Sweden, to a wealthy family. His father Carl was an engineer and designer who made sure his son was educated properly.Max got his first acting job as a student at the University of Stockholm when he joined a small theater group that performed classical Greek plays in English translation.

In 1956 Max became an overnight sensation with his acting performance as Jesus Christ in the Swedish film The Greatest Story Ever Told which retells the life of Jesus from birth through ascension into heaven.

After this role he went on to star in every major Hollywood production including Minority Report (2002), Minority Report (2002) and Silence Of The Lambs (1991).

Michael Anderson Jr.

Michael Anderson Jr. was born on November 28, 1923 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
He died on February 13, 2017 at the age of 93 in Los Angeles.
He was an actor and producer, known for The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), The Ten Commandments (1956) and The Longest Day (1962).

Telly Savalas

Telly Savalas was a Greek American actor best known for his role as the cigar-smoking, trench coat-wearing police detective Lieutenant Theo Kojak.

The character appeared in a total of 119 episodes of the CBS-TV series ‘Kojak’, which aired from 1973 to 1978; a remake with Ving Rhames as Kojak aired on TNT from 2005 to 2008.

Savalas played New York Police Department Detective Steve Carella’s father Frank in the ABC daytime soap opera ‘Dark Shadows’. He also appeared in several movies and TV series including ‘Death Wish’ and ‘The Dirty Dozen’.

In 1967 he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in ‘Zorba The Greek’.

José Ferrer

The son of Venezuelan immigrants, José Ferrer was born in Puerto Rico. His father was a doctor and his mother worked as a teacher and an artist. He has seven siblings, including actor José Ferrer Jr., who portrayed Fidel Castro in the film “Che.”

He is known for appearing in films such as “Julius Caesar” (1953), which won him an Academy Award for Best Actor; “The Caine Mutiny” (1954); and “The Great Man” (1956).

He has also done voice work for animated films such as “Castle in the Sky” (1986) and more recently appeared on Broadway with his son Miguel Ferrer at the Signature Theatre Company production of “Ivanov.”

Sidney Poitier

Sidney Poitier was born on February 20, 1927 in Miami, Florida. He was the son of Ethel (née Edwards) and Reginald James Poitier, who was a carpenter and furniture maker.

In 1947 he was initiated into Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity where he eventually became chapter president. After serving in the U.S Army between 1945 and 1948, he returned to school on the G.I Bill at Miami Beach Senior High School where he performed in high school plays while working various jobs such as shoe-shining and dishwashing at hotels around Miami Beach. It was here that his interest in acting began to grow; this led him to study drama at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts from 1949-1951 where he received an MFA degree under Hallie Flanagan Davis for his thesis project: “The Ring”.

David McCallum

He was born in Glasgow, Scotland and has acted in over 100 films and television shows since 1956. In 2010, he was inducted into the Scottish Variety Artistes Association Hall of Fame for his contributions to entertainment

Van Heflin

Van Heflin was a stage actor who had appeared in films and on television prior to the release of The Greatest Story Ever Told.

Heflin was born Edward Henry Van Heflin, Jr., in Walters, Oklahoma on May 21, 1910. His mother died when he was just six years old and his father abandoned him soon after that. Heflin’s grandparents were farmers and he spent much of his childhood helping them out on their farm before moving to California at age 14 with an uncle where he worked as a truck driver for two years until his high school graduation. After graduating from high school, he attended Compton Junior College where he majored in pre-medicine until his father remarried and asked his son to come back home with him so they could work together at their new family farm located near Caldwell, Kansas where they would remain until 1932 when Van Heflin went off again by himself this time traveling westward towards Los Angeles where he hoped to pursue acting as a career path for himself; however, due more than anything else according to him because “no one had ever done it,” meaning become an actor without any formal training whatsoever (he had not even taken an acting class).

Shelley Winters

Shelley Winters was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Gertrude (née Goldsmith) and Harry Winters, who ran a traveling ice show. Her younger brother, Irving David Winters, died at age 22 on September 11, 2001. In 1929 when she was two-and-a-half years old, her family moved to Hollywood where the young actress got her start acting in films.

She appeared uncredited in films such as The Champ (1931) and Kid Millions (1934). She also had a brief career as a child actress, appearing in the play The Earth Between (1927).

Winters was a member of the Actors Studio from 1948 to 1951. She would go on to appear in over 100 films and television shows during her decades long career including The Diary of Anne Frank (1959), Advise & Consent (1962), A Patch of Blue (1965), The Poseidon Adventure (1972), Chinatown(1974)

Roddy McDowall

Roddy McDowall was born Reginald Alec Martin-McDowall in London, England on February 28th 1928. He was an English-American actor, voice artist, film director and photographer who died September 3rd 1998 at age 70.

When he was 18 years old he moved to the United States where he continued his acting career until his death.

Carroll Baker

Carroll Baker was born on January 1, 1931 in Houston, Texas. She is an American actress and a former model who achieved fame as an actress in the 1950s when she starred in a string of hits, most notably Baby Doll (1956) and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962).

Baker’s parents divorced when she was young, and Carroll spent much time with her grandmother. By 12 years old, she was getting modeling jobs through her mother’s connections at Neiman Marcus; her first advertisement featured her posing with a lamb chop around her neck for which she earned $15 per hour. Her success led to Carroll being featured on the cover of Seventeen magazine at age 15 years old.

She later attended Stephens College where she studied theater arts before getting married in 1949 and moving back home with her new husband after just one semester at school

Martin Landau

Martin Landau was born on June 20, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He was an actor, known for Ed Wood (1994), North by Northwest (1959) and Murder, She Wrote (1984).

Landau was a boxer and a painter before becoming an actor.
