Litany For The Poor Souls In Purgatory

O Eternal God, who are the author of all good things and the giver of all healing, vouchsafe to send Thy holy Angel from heaven to guard and defend all who dwell in this house. May he rebuke and drive away from it all snares of the enemy, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen!

God’s mercy – such as Romans 5:20; 1 John 1:9 & 2:1-2. The Bible tells us that when we ask God for His mercy then He will give it to us because He is a merciful God who wants all people to be saved and come into the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4)Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen!.

And let perpetual light shine upon them.

And let perpetual light shine upon them.

The phrase “Let perpetual light shine upon them” is a symbolic phrase that represents several aspects of God’s love and mercy, His justice, and His righteousness.

By saying “perpetual light” we are asking for the following:

  • God’s love – such as John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 13; 1 John 4:8-12; Revelation 2:4; 19:7-9 & 22:5-6. This includes Jesus’ atonement on the cross for our sins and His resurrection from the dead to secure our salvation (See Romans 5 – 8). We know this because when Jesus died he said “It is finished” meaning that all sin had been paid for once and for all time! However before he could do so he had to endure much suffering himself – He was beaten with rods, scourged until his flesh was torn away leaving only bone beneath, then crucified between two thieves (one of which repented while the other did not), pierced with a spear in his side where blood came out bringing forth life again – not death! This serves as a reminder that if you accept Christ’s sacrifice by faith alone then when you die you will go directly into Heaven without having to spend time in purgatory first!

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen! Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen!

May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

The following prayer is a litany for the poor souls in Purgatory.

AmenEternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen! Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. AmenGrant them eternal rest, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. AmenIt is one of many prayers on the subject, but it is a very well-known litany and has been used for many years. It can be prayed in any language, although its original language was Latin. It is often used during the Easter Vigil Mass.!!.

This litany can be prayed by anyone in the Church who feels moved to do so. The prayer is long and complex, but it is a beautiful way to beg for mercy on behalf of those who are suffering in purgatory.
