What Does The Bible Say About Division
The Bible is full of passages that encourage Christians to be united, but still there are many who choose division. Jesus did not come to earth for the purpose of bringing division among those who claimed to believe in Him. He came to bring people together in unity through His love and sacrifice on Calvary.
The Bible gives us very clear commands on how we are to treat our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The Bible is clear on how we are to treat one another. Jesus came to bring us together, not divide us (John 13:35). He told his disciples that they were all brothers and sisters in Christ (Matthew 23:8), and he wanted them to love one another as He loved them (John 15:12). Yet, Christians often find themselves divided.
Jesus showed us what love looks like by washing the feet of His disciples before the Last Supper (John 13:5-11). Jesus showed His disciples how to treat one another by washing their feet out of love (verses 7-17). The Bible says that if we want our prayers answered, then we must live in harmony with one another (James 5:16).
Christians are to be a united people
The Bible has much to say about unity. The problem of division is incessant, but God’s desire for His people is that we would be one in Him. This is what it means to be a Christian—to become part of God’s family, the church. As Paul writes in Ephesians 4:3-6:
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” For there is one body and one Spirit – even as you also were called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism…There is only “one body,” which represents all Christians everywhere (1 Corinthians 12:12). We are united by our common faith in Jesus Christ and our membership in His church (Ephesians 1:22; Acts 2:47).
Jesus did not come to earth for the purpose of bringing division among those who claimed to believe in Him.
Jesus came to bring peace and unity.
He came to bring us together
In Him, we are already one in the Spirit.
If we want to be synonymous with the name of the Lord, then we must choose unity over division.
In the Bible, Jesus was called the Prince of Peace. That is because he was the only person who could unite all people under one banner and bring them together as one. He did this through his teachings, his example, and by dying on a cross for all mankind’s sins.
When you think about it, unity is a sign of God’s Spirit working in our lives—it shows that we are following His will and becoming more like Him every day. This kind of positive change doesn’t just happen overnight; it takes time and perseverance to understand how different people come from various backgrounds with different values and beliefs—and these differences can lead to conflict. When two or more individuals are trying their best to be good Christians while also having differing opinions or goals on something important like abortion rights or LGBTQ+ issues (or anything else!), then sometimes they will butt heads over those disagreements until they finally realize that their differences aren’t worth fighting over anymore! It’s not always easy when someone doesn’t agree with what you think should happen next…
I hope that this article has opened your eyes to the importance of unity in the body of Christ. If we want to be synonymous with the name of the Lord, then we must choose unity over division. We must humble ourselves, submit to each other and pray for one another as brothers and sisters who have been redeemed by Christ’s blood shed on Calvary.
