What Does The Bible Say About Inheritance
We’ve all heard the saying, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” When it comes to inheritance, that may not be so literal. Sometimes, parents do their best to set their children up for success. Other times though, they can have different ideas than what’s best for their kids. The Bible talks about inheritance in many ways—how we are supposed to handle it when we receive it and how we should act if we don’t have any money or property left behind by our parents or loved ones who have passed away.
Matthew 5:5
5:5 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 5:6 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 5:7 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.[2]
5:8 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing but to be cast out and trodden under foot by men.
John 15:13
John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” This passage is instructive because it illustrates the type of love God has for us.
Jesus is like a vine and we are like branches connected to him. Jesus wants us to bear fruit by allowing him to produce good fruit through us.
Romans 8:17
17 If we are to take Paul’s advice, our bodies do not belong to ourselves. We were bought with a price and now belong to God (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Therefore, we cannot consider our bodies as such but rather as His property. When God gives us something or blesses us with something it is never because He wants something from us but because He loves us unconditionally and would like to share some of His treasures with us. As the owner of all things in heaven and earth, He has bestowed many gifts upon humanity including salvation (Romans 5:15), eternal life (Romans 6:23), forgiveness for sin (Ephesians 1:7), liberation from death by resurrection at the Second Coming of Christ when He comes again one day soon
Galatians 3:29
Galatians 3:29 says that “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.”
We are not just heirs of God, but also joint heirs with Christ. We don’t have less inheritance than Him; we have exactly the same inheritance as Him: eternal life in heaven! And because this is true, we can be confident that our salvation and afterlife will be secure no matter what happens on earth.
1 Peter 1:4
1 Peter 1:4 is a verse that refers to the inheritance as being God’s promise of eternal life. It says, “Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” The inheritance is also referred to as salvation or salvation from corruption. This does not mean that Jesus died for you and saved your soul alone; rather, it refers to God’s desire for everyone (Jews and Gentiles) who believe in Him to have eternal life with Him
