Where Is Noah’s Ark In The Bible

The Bible tells us that Noah’s ark was 450 feet long and 75 feet wide. It was 175 feet tall (Genesis 6:15). The ark contained 3 decks, one of which was reserved for animals. There were over 30,000 animals on the ark (Genesis 7:2). And it contained enough food to last Noah and his family for over one year (Genesis 7:4). But where exactly is the ark located? That’s what we’re going to explore in this article!

The ark begins appearing in the Bible in Genesis, chapter 6.

The ark begins appearing in the Bible in Genesis, chapter 6. It takes on a more concrete form when God instructs Noah to build it: “Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark…” (Genesis 6:14). The next time we read about Noah’s Ark, it has been built and is ready for use:

“And God said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation” (Genesis 7:1). Then finally, there is mention of how many animals are aboard as well as how many humans are there with them.

The story of the great flood is picked up again in Genesis 8, but it’s not until chapter 9 that Noah and his family leave the ark.

Now, let’s talk about the ark itself. The Bible tells us that Noah was 600 years old when he started building it (Genesis 6:3). So where did he get the wood for this enormous boat? Genesis 6:14 says that he used gopher wood, which no one knows what that is. We also know from Genesis 7:11-12 that God told Noah to take two of every kind of animal on board with him—including dinosaurs!

Many people believe that we’ll never find the exact location of where this great flood occurred because it was so traumatic an event in history, so they don’t think we’ll ever be able to find any evidence either way. But there are many theories out there as well as various sites and artefacts claimed by some groups or individuals as being possible candidates for being part of Noah’s Ark.

Genesis 8:4 tells us that five months went by before the waters dried off the earth.

Genesis 8:4 tells us that five months went by before the waters dried off the earth.

The Bible does not say exactly how long it took for the flood to subside, but we do know that it was on the Earth for 150 days, because this is how long Noah had to wait before sending out a dove to look for dry land. The dove came back with an olive branch in its mouth after an entire month had passed following their exit from their Ark.

  • Genesis 8:11 – “In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of that month, all the fountains of heaven were broken up and floods were pouring down from above on all mankind;”
  • Verse 13 – “On Mount Zion there are one hundred and ninety-five thousand who have not bowed down to Baal nor kissed him (their lips).”

According to Genesis 8:18, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

According to Genesis 8:18, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Today, Mount Ararat is located in eastern Turkey and is made up of two peaks: Greater Ararat (16,854 feet) and Lesser Ararat (12,782 feet). Mount Ararat is also known as Agri Dag or Kara Dağ in Turkish. These names translate to “Black Mountain” or “Mountain of Darkness”—and they are rather fitting since this mountain range was once covered by an ice cap that permanently obscured its peaks from view.

There’s no mention after Genesis of what happened to Noah or his family after they left the ark.

There’s no mention after Genesis of what happened to Noah or his family after they left the ark. This is strange considering that all other humans died in the flood and there was only one other human on earth with them: their son Shem. Most write-ups about this Bible story say that this is because God wanted everyone to forget that they were ever there so he could start over with a clean slate, but I think it’s actually because…

…they were aliens!

The next time a ship appears in the Bible is in Exodus 14, when Pharaoh’s chariots and horsemen are trapped between Moses’ followers and the Red Sea.

The next time a ship appears in the Bible is in Exodus 14, when Pharaoh’s chariots and horsemen are trapped between Moses’ followers and the Red Sea. In this passage, God parts the waters of the sea with a strong east wind as he had done before with Noah (Genesis 8:1-3). The Israelites cross over on dry land while their enemies drown in those same waters.

The Ark of the Covenant itself may have been used as a vehicle for protection at times too; it was carried by priests during military campaigns, including some battles against Philistines (1 Samuel 4:3) and Canaanites (Numbers 10:33).

The short answer is that the ark appeared all over Mount Ararat, which is actually made up of two peaks in eastern Turkey.

The Bible doesn’t tell us exactly where it landed, but most biblical scholars agree that it was somewhere on or near modern-day Mount Ararat. That mountain range has a long history of being associated with Noah’s Ark—and for good reason! It’s one of the only places in the world where we know an enormous wooden boat could have landed safely.

The long answer is that there are multiple theories about where the ark landed. Many Christians believe it’s buried deep within Mount Ararat, but some think it might be somewhere else. Based on the Bible and other historical documents, we can say that Noah’s Ark would have been a huge boat—at least 500 feet long!
